Are objects on the slide editable?

Page pictures are images, not native shapes. Text-only mode is editable but will not match the original layout.

Does this use a conversion server?

No. Slides are packaged as Office Open XML in this browser.

Why might a slide be blank?

The page had no selectable text, OCR was turned off or found nothing, and page pictures were also off. Leave OCR or pictures enabled for scans.
